ACI Agg 2 Testing Technician Certification

Definition:

An Aggregate Testing Technician—Level 2 is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of advanced laboratory procedures for aggregates.

Scope and Knowledge:

The program requires a working knowledge of the following AASHTO/ASTM standards:

  • T96–02*—Resistance to Degradation of Small-Size Coarse Aggregate by Abrasion and Impact in the Los Angeles Machine
    C131/C131M—Resistance to Degradation of Small-Size Coarse Aggregate by Abrasion and Impact in the Los Angeles Machine

  • C535—Resistance to Degradation of Large-Size Coarse Aggregate by Abrasion and Impact in the Los Angeles Machine

  • T112–00—Clay Lumps and Friable Particles in Aggregate
    C142–97—Clay Lumps and Friable Particles in Aggregate

  • D4791–10—Flat Particles, Elongated Particles, or Flat and Elongated Particles in Coarse Aggregate

  • T19M/T19—Bulk Density (Unit Weight) and Voids in Aggregate
    C29/C29M—Bulk Density (Unit Weight) and Voids in Aggregate

  • T104–99*—Soundness of Aggregates by Use of Sodium Sulfate or Magnesium Sulfate
    C88–13*—Soundness of Aggregates by Use of Sodium Sulfate or Magnesium Sulfate

  • T113–06—Lightweight Pieces in Aggregate
    C123–04—Lightweight Pieces in Aggregate

  • T176–08—Plastic Fines in Graded Aggregates and Soils by Use of the Sand Equivalent Test
    D2419—Plastic Fines in Graded Aggregates and Soils by Use of the Sand Equivalent Test

  • T304–11—Uncompacted Void Content of Fine Aggregate
    C1252—Uncompacted Void Content of Fine Aggregate

  • D5821–01—Determining the Percentage of Fractured Particles in Coarse Aggregate

Certification Requirements:

ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

  1. Hold current certification as an ACI Aggregate Testing Technician—Level 1, and

  2. Obtain a passing grade on the ACI written examination, and

  3. Successfully complete the ACI performance examination.

The two-hour written examination is open-book and consists of approximately 100 multiple-choice questions. There are eight to 12 questions on each of the standards.

To pass the written examination, both of the following conditions must be met:

  1. At least 60% correct for each of the required standards, and

  2. A minimum score of 70% overall.

The performance examination is closed-book and requires actual demonstration of the required standards. The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform or describe all of the required procedures for each standard.

Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations

The workshop for the test will be held on August 04, 2018 beginning at 0645 at Terracon Consultants located at 11555 Clay Road Houston, Texas 77043.

Registration Pricing:

  • Aggregate Testing Technician Level 2 Certification – $500.00

    This program includes a workshop, practice session and written and performance testing to Achieve ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 2 Certification

  • Aggregate Testing Technician Performance Retesting – $250.00

    This is for those who did not successfully pass the performance/hands on portion of the certification. This can be taken as many times as needed within one calendar year of failing this portion of the certification the first time.

  • Aggregate Testing Technician Recertification – $450.00

    In order to qualify for the reduced "Recertification" fee, recertification is defined by ACI as: A process undertaken prior to expiration of original certification by which a certified individual renews certification by successfully completing the current certification requirements.

  • Aggregate Testing Technician Written Retest – $250.00

    The written exam portion only of the Aggregate Testing Technician program. Retesting can be taken as many times as needed within one calendar year of taking it the first time and did not pass. The entire test must be retaken.
